Good Test For Gills

Good Test For Gills image

In their latest pre-season friendly the Gills drew 3-3 with Alresford Town of the wessex Premier League.

Alresford play at the same level that the Gills will be playing in the coming season so it was going to be interesting to see how the Gills fared.

It looked ominous as it took Alresford just four minutes to open the scoring and then doubled their lead on 14 minutes, both goals coming from good play, and this was how it stayed till the halftime break.

Ten minutes into the second half the Gills scored their first when a corner was headed towards goal by new signing Jack Vallis. The Alresford keeper made a great save but could only palm the ball to Matt Chant who had a simple volley to score.

On 67 minutes the gills drew level when Aaron Rodriguez drove into the left side of the area before laying the ball off to Lee Gale, who drove a low shot past the keeper.

Then with 15 minutes left the Gills took the lead when a Lee Gale shot was saved by the keeper who, once again, could only parry the shot. This time the ball fell to Danny Thompson who again had a simple tap-in.

Alresford got the equaliser in the last minute and this was probably a fair result.

All in all this was a really good test for the Gills players against a well organised and skillfiul team. Next up are Verwood Town on Tuesday evening with a 7:45 KO.
