FINE VICTORY SEES WELFARE 5 POINTS CLEAR

GARRY MOLLON

Glasshoughton Welfare moved 5 points ahead of 7th placed Hallam in the NCEL div. 1 play off place with a fine 4-1 victory at a rain sodden Ollerton Town on Monday evening.

A brace from Ryan Ferguson, and one each from Andy Horbury and Tom Carr saw welfare gain a victory on a ground where they have not done well on for a couple of years.

Welfare as usual were quick out of the blocks, and, unlike in their last game at FC Bolsover they put away their early chances.

Ryan Ferguson opened the scoring on 4 minutes with a headed goal and 10 minutes later it was two. After Conor Glavin's 30 yarder at Bolsover this time it was the turn of Tom Carr to show what he could do and he did it well to fire past the home keeper.

Sadly for Carr his night was ended on 30 minutes when he recieved a red card for kicking out at Liam Cooper.

Although down to ten men welfare were still causing problems and on the stroke of half time Andy Horbury made it 3 when he outpaced the home defence and slotted home.

Ollerton came out fighting in the second half and once again Polish goalkeeper Mateuz
Zaniewski saved his side twice within a few minutes firstly when Burrell got onto the end of a shot and forced the keeper into tipping the ball over the crossbar. Shortly after he made another great save and managed to collect the ball at the second attempt.

The home side reduced the arrears midway through the half when Sam Pashley was harshly adjudged to have fouled in the six yard area. Gavin King made no mistake from the 12 yard spot.

What hope they had was extinguished with 5 minutes left when Tom Hullock's pass from the angle found Ferguson who knocked it in at the far post.
