WELFARE CRASH BACK TO EARTH AFTER DEFEAT.

Glasshoughton Welfare went from the sublime to the ridiculous in less than 72 hours when a very poor performance saw them suffer defeat at Ollerton Town.

After the hype of the mid-week cup win at Hallam, Welfare were looking to gain valuable league points to bolster their chances of an FA Cup place next season
However a lack lustre display saw them drop to 12th place in the league table. As has been seen in previous games when Welfare have had a good win, the following game poses a problem, and once again this showed with the Welfare players hardly able to put two passes together .

Welfare knew they were up for a tough game in the early stages with the home side pressing well. Jordan Bradshaw in the Welfare goal did well to tip away a dangerous corner kick. However at the other end Jordan Schofield blocked Elliot Williams as he looked to pounce and home keeper Scott Stretton saved at the second attempt from an Andy Horbury shot. A fierce Josh Morley shot was well pushed away by Stretton.

Bradshaw saved welfare on 22 minutes when he palmed away a 25 yard effort from Sam Dockwray but the keeper was lucky minutes later when Greg Tobin headed an effort over an open goal.

Ollerton had another chance on 38 minutes when Mike Brearley headed away with Bradshaw calling for the ball and the loose ball was hit just over the bar by Kyle Ludlow. More poor Welfare defending allowed Tobin to hit another effort just over the bar before the break.

Ollerton took the lead on 51 minutes. Welfare attacked down the right but the ball was lost and with defenders missing,  the ball was knocked  into Lewis Bingham who ran on and slotted past Bradshaw.

On the restart the hosts came again and an effort was blasted over the bar. Just after this Welfare had their best chance when Elliot Williams saw his downwards  header palmed over by Stretton.

Ludlow had another good chance for the home side but smashed his shot over the bar and then for Welfare, Horbury was through on goal but failed to get a shot away as he was tackled. Just after, a Nathan Keightley pass saw the ball reach Horbury but his shot was blocked.

In the last 10 minutes Bradshaw saved at point blank at his near post from Brandon Shaw and then Mark Carter headed into the keepers hands when well placed.
