Pumas win their first ever penalty shoot out in dramatic end to the season

Pumas have scoreless game for first time in their three season history

Final game of 2017/18 season saw Pumas entertain Elmstead Cockerels in Spring Copper Plate 3rd/4th play off. In the first half each defence mainly cancelled out any attacking moves. First real action came in 21st minute when Timothy Hobbs made a fine save. This was followed up 2 mins later with a double save by Timothy Hobbs. Pumas had their first notable shot when George Manning shot to right of goal 2 mins before half time. Second half was much brighter and Timothy Hobbs shot to left after 30 mins. Richard Musayayi then produced a save from their goalie a minute later. After 36 mins Timothy Hobbs had a deflected effort bounce wide just after George Manning had a penalty appeal turned down. In 38 min Luke Perkins had a shot from a corner before the tide turned Elmstead's way. In 40 min Elmstead had a free kick that went to the left. 41 min they had another shot to the left. 43rd min they shot to the right. In 45th min Brandon Simons made a fine save and then Elmstead shot over the bar with another effort. Game fizzled out and ended in the Pumas first ever 0-0 draw. Game went to penalties which ended 2-2 after first round of five.

We then entered sudden death and Elmstead missed and George Manning held his nerve to seal a 3-2 win on penalties. After three seasons this is the Pumas first ever penalty shoot out win. Two previous penalty shoot outs over different seasons both ended in defeats to Westerham sides. Alfie Riley was our MOTM and Timothy Hobbs was our superb captain for the day. Big thanks to Andrew for being our ref and to all our parents for their support and encouragement. Great way to end the season and extend an unbeaten run to three games. This was my last game as manager and Brandon as a player. The Pumas have left me with wonderful memories and the boys that have played for the Pumas will always be 7/8/9/10 year old boys to me, even when I meet them as adults in years to come. Good luck for next season Pumas and see you on your travels.
