Winning Run Continues for the Under 16s
Ope's Stunning Strike Moves Glebe up to 2nd
Glebe Under 16s made it 4 wins in a row and avenged their opening day defeat by Fisher Youth in a thrilling game at St' Paul's Stadium. Fisher's wondeful facilities and bright October sunshine provided a fitting backdrop for a wonderful game of football. Glebe started brightly and, after squandering a number fo early chances, deservedly took the lead when Lauriano finished off a fine move. But Fisher played their way back in to the game scored twice in the closing minutes of the half. It was harsh on Glebe to be 2-1 down at the break. However, the team has developed real determination this season and quickly put the disappointment of conceding two quick goals behind them. Glebe were on top from the start of the second period but had to wait until 15 minutes in to the half and Michael's very first touch to grab a deserved equaliser. This spurred the team on even more and soon after the lead was regained with a simply stunning goal from Ope. Collecting the ball with his back to goal near the halfway line, he moved forward down the left wing before moving inside, beating another defender then unleashing a powerful curling shot in to the bottom corner of the net, giving the excellent Fisher goalkeeper no chance. It was a fitting goal to win any game and moves Glebe up to 2nd in the KYL North Division, just 2 points behind Cray Valley but with a game in hand.
Glebe now have cup action for the next 2 weeks and will take on Bridon Ropes in the London Cup at Foxbury Avenue next week.
