The best way to keep up to date with Glenrothes Rugby Club

3 months ago By Duncan Simpson

The inaugural Tracy Gray Mini Rugby Tournament was a huge success with four hundred primary school children enjoying a day of fun and competition.

The Tracy Gray Tournament, named in honour of the club's past President who sadly died at the end of 2017, took off in style at Carleton Park on Sunday 22nd April.

Quite literally hundreds of cars found a space at Glenrothes Rugby Club to take part in an eight-club competition across five age groups from Micros (P1-P3) to P7. The competing clubs were Dundee Eagles, Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Kinross, Kirkcaldy, Madras, Panmure/ Waid, and Perthshire. On the day, all of the clubs brought along the numbers expected which made for a smoothly run competition without having to do lots of chopping and changing.

The rugby on show was of the highest quality across all of the age groups, and every match was keenly contested, with narrow margins determining which clubs would play-off as champions of their sections. The winners and runners up in each section were as follows:

Champions: Kirkcaldy
Runners Up: Madras

Champions: Madras
Runners Up: Glenrothes

Champions: Perthshire
Runners Up: Madras

Joint Champions: Kinross and Panmure/ Waid

Champions: Perthshire
Runners Up: Kirkcaldy

The host club Glenrothes showed just how much progress is being made against some of the best teams in mini rugby. The club was able to field full squads in every age group, and the Wee Glens gave as good as they got across every age group. Pride of place went to a relatively inexperienced P4 team who defied the odds to reach the final of the their age group.

Well done to all the players for their efforts and thanks to the many volunteers and coaches from all clubs for making the day so enjoyable. Roll on 2019!
