Bethania win inaugural tournament

The first ever Glenwood Church Invitation Sevens provided thrills and drama aplenty over the two Saturdays necessary to reach a conclusion.

The first rain affected Saturday saw Glenwood top their group with Cardiff Malayalee also qualifying as runners up. Group B saw Superkings top with Bethania securing second spot on run difference.

Semi Finals
Bethania saw off Glenwood in the last over in spite of a heroic innings from Lindsay Dobson. Mefin deserves a mention for bowling out Lloyd Sutton in the third over.

Superkings beat Cardiff Malayalee in the other semi final to set up another match with Bethania who beat them in the pouring rain last Saturday in the Group stages.

Final
Superkings batted first and posted 36 with 4 wickets down from their 5 overs with Matt 4-1 and myself 3-1 taking the honours. "Welshy" in their side finished top scorer.

In the chase both Lloyds took us to 13 from 2 overs. Good sensible batting saw 7 required from the last over. A bit of a wobble in the middle left Lloyd Sutton needing 3 from the last delivery and he duly obliged with a 4.

Great fun and good cricket all played in excellent spirit.

Many thanks to Howard who organises this event year in, year out.
