Glossop U9 Piranhas 2 Chadderton Reds U9 B 1

The Piranhas withstood sustained pressure at the beginning of the first half. Both Teddy Fantom and Johnny Gabriel made strong tackles while Will Winbow was secure between the sticks. A last ditch tackle prevented Ben Gove from opening Glossop’s account. Alex Friend was inches wide with a lob and then forced the keeper into a save. The Piranhas took the lead when Ben Gove spectacularly volleyed in an Oliver Stonehouse free-kick.

The confidence flowed through the Piranhas as they sought to increase their advantage. Joe Henniker, Ben Gove and Oliver Stonehouse all had further attempts on goal before Joe Henniker just failed to find the top right hand corner with a volley. Alex Friend and Joe Henniker combined to put in Ben Gove whose shot was saved.

The Piranhas wasted a free kick after Ben Gove was pole-axed by a two-footed tackle. Oliver Stonehouse capped a fine passing move when he dribbled from halfway before cooling slotting home. As Chadderton responded, Teddy Fantom and Joe Aspden worked tirelessly in defence ably supported by Oliver Stonehouse and Joe Henniker who both made excellent tackles. It took a fine shot into the corner of the net to beat Will Winbow. The Piranhas thoroughly deserved their first league victory of the season.
