Glossop North End AFC Juniors are delighted to announce that our Under 15’s age group has won the High Peak Sports Award for 2015. The age group involves three teams, 2 x boys teams and 1 x girl team. Their success in terms of development and on the pitch wins, has been phenomenal.
Our Under 15 ‘Whites’ boys team was set up in July 2014 with only 5 players attending the first training session. Undeterred, Yiannis Kitromilides, Manager and Dave Rowlinson, Vice Chairman of the Club, knew that by offering quality coaching, a Club ethos of playing football with a smile and #beingthebestyoucanbe, that players would eventually come.
The team was entered into the Stockport Metro Junior Football League and numbers rose week on week, until a squad of 16 players was registered by the season start. These included boys who had previously been disillusioned or just become bored and had stopped playing football.
The coaching has been good and a great team spirit enthused, so much so that their performances last year saw P20 W17 D3 L0. They won their Division Title in impressive style and also were victorious in winning the Under 15 High Peak Cup.
Our Under 15 ‘Blues’ boys team is managed by Jason Cooper and coached by Russ Fryer. Last season they performed exceptionally, becoming Tameside Football League Under 15 League Champions, Under 15 Challenge Cup winners and Under 15 League Cup winners. Stats from their League performances show P18 W16 D1 L1.
The squad also won tournaments at Tintwistle, Fleetwood and Knowsley. The boys also represented the Club in a 32 team competition in Barcelona with entrants from over Europe; unfortunately the boys lost in the Final, but were commended on their performances.
The style of football that this team produces is fantastic to watch and they took on board the Club philosophy of developing creative and imaginative footballers.
Our Under 15 Girls team is managed by Glenn Etchells and coached by Jason Birkhead. The girls matched the boys with their performances on the pitch. They won the North Manchester Girls League Under 15 League competition, with stats of P20 W16 D4. They also won their Under 15 KO Cup competition and were runners up in the League Cup. The girls also participated in the Manchester County FA Youth Cup, progressing to the Final to play Manchester City Girls. Despite losing 2-1 the girls did themselves and the Club proud, with the manner of their performance. Again the standard of football they produce is high and is a great example to the other girls teams within the Club.
What is fantastic to see is the camaraderie at this age group, both inside and outside the Club. This was evidenced when a number of the boys attended the girls FA Youth Cup Final to provide their support. The Under 15’s are a very strong unit with players/Managers/Coaches working together to promote teamwork alongside enjoyment and development.
League statistics overall show P58 W49 D8 L1 with 4 Cup wins, 3 Tournament Wins, and 3 Cup runners-up.
