Glossop Juniors celebrated an incredible season on and off the field at Surrey St, home of Glossop North End AFC on Saturday 4th July .

Over 40 volunteers, managers and coaches were in attendance and enjoyed a celebration of everything the club has achieved over the last year including individual team success’s across all age groups as well as local and regional awards for the Club’s achievements on and off the pitch.

The club also recognised teams and volunteers by presenting 3 new awards and the Len Davies Trophy for its achievements over the last 12 months. In a season of such progress and commitment from all its volunteers, it was incredibly hard to choose the eventual winners !

Team of the Year – Under 15’s Girls

In an amazing year of achievement across all age groups it was almost impossible to pick a winner in this category but getting to the Manchester County Cup Final where they lost narrowly to Manchester City , the Girls were deserved winners despite strong challenges from the Under 15 Blues and Whites for the inaugural Team of the Year award.
Managed by Glenn Etchells who won North Manchester League Under 15 Girls , Manager of the Season 2014-15 this group of coaches and players went unbeaten in the league and achieved the following-
North Manchester Girls U15 League Champions
Winners - North Manchester Girls League U15 KO Cup
Runners Up - Manchester County FA U15 Girls Youth Cup
Runners Up - North Manchester Girls League U15 League Cup
Well done to the Under 15’s on an amazing season.

Coach of the Year - Russell Fryer

Since joining the Football Development Committee Russell has played a crucial role in coach developmental throughout the club. Having been the first GNE coach to complete the FA Youth Module award he has gone on to successfully pass the Youth Module 3 award. This has ensured that Russell has been the catalyst and a driving force in leading coach development by example and encouraging coaches to complete their own Youth module awards.

A leading Manchester United soccer coach Russell travels the world but is still keen to share his time and experience in mentoring coaches including helping to set-up a new under 15s side and supporting the manager Yiannis along with working with the under 16s at the start of the season to develop their playing squad. A key exponent of the FA Future game programme Russell has worked with the committee to ensure that this is integrated into the club's own philosophy, something which has been recognised and supported by the FA at all levels. He assisted with setting up a new u14-u15 Futsal team. He has also taken members of his u15 squad to Futsal tournaments.

Alongside this work Russell has dedicated his time supporting the under 15s manager Jason Cooper on a weekly basis and helped coach the side to the Tameside League treble of League Champions, and Challenge and League Cup winners.

Len Davies Trophy - Roger Clegg; voted for by the Managers and Coaches within the Club.

The award is in memory of Len Davies, a popular football scout, who was a huge supporter of grassroots football in the area. Len lived in Hadfield and died in March 2010. Len spent over half a century working for top-flight clubs, including Bolton Wanderers, Leeds United and his beloved Manchester City.
He wrote a book entitled "My name is Len Davies, I'm a football scout" and former players sang his praises in the pages. Francis Lee wrote "Len Davies has been a great contributor to Manchester City and his efforts for the club and the players he brought here will always be remembered". Brian Kidd, who starred for both City and United, wrote in the book "Len is one of the most respected people in Greater Manchester, not just for his ability to spot talent, but for his honesty and integrity".
Contributing, honesty and integrity are values that Glossop Juniors look for in all our volunteers and any winner of this Award, must have all these attributes.
Roger Clegg is Chair of our Football Development Committee and his work in this role, including the development of a Club mission statement and ethos, providing help and guidance for a number of our coaches, plus coaching alongside Craig and Matt in our under 13 Blues and under 17's squads respectively, make him a very worthy winner of the Award.
Roger makes himself available at all times to discuss all things Glossop Juniors and his contributions reflect the successes the Club has achieved over the last 12-18 months.

Volunteer of the Year - Craig Jackson

This Award is chosen by the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, reflecting the amount of work an individual contributes to the Club as a whole i.e. on and off the pitch.
Craig, alongside managing two teams, Under 13 Blues and Under 16's, is the Club's Kit Manager and sits on the Club's Committee. Coaching two nights a week and then volunteering to deal with all the Club's Kit and Equipment orders and our relationships with Nike and Versey, together with attendence at Committee meetings and numerous discussions in-between, means Craig fully deserves the Award, for the level of commitment he shows.
This year Craig has overseen the ordering and delivery of kits for 11 squads, over 320 footballs, together with all the training kit and equipment (bibs, cones, poles etc). He has also co-ordinated the ordering of standard coaches kits for 24 of our volunteers, with the remainder to be kitted out this season. Craig has developed further our relationship with Nike and Versey this year, culminating with attendence at two Nike Partner Club days and an invitation to the Nike box for the FA Vase final.
On the pitch, the Under 13 Blues won the Tameside League - Saturday and also the Tameside League - Saturday Challenge Cup; two fantastic achievements. His work alongside Mike in the Under 17's is also recognised, as part of this Award.
Craig is a huge supporter of Glossop North End Juniors and we are hugely grateful for the amount of work he contributes, often unseen and unrecognised.
