Double trouble for Outlaws?

The Warriors travel to Nottingham looking to complete only their second league double over the in-form Outlaws at Highfields tomorrow (kick off 3pm).

It’s a tough run-in but I’m confident we have the ability to finish the season strongly
- Chris Wilson, Warriors Chairman

The Outlaws will be a different side from that beaten 24-20 at Oxstalls in April having won six games in a row before defeat at Torfaen last week.

The Warriors, too, will be a different side with a number of new faces in line to make their debuts as they look to break a run of three defeats.

The Outlaws winning streak followed their last-minute loss to the Warriors when a late Josh Williams try snatched the points for the home side. “They will be out for revenge for that loss,” said Warriors Chairman, Chris Wilson. “We will need to be ready for that. But we have trained well and the boys will be in a confident mood”.

The Outlaws have designated the game their Heritage Round and Chairman Richard Johnson believes the Warriors are fitting opponents, given that they were one of the Outlaws’ opponents in Nottingham‘s inaugural season in what was then the Summer Conference League.

“I can vividly recall the games against Gloucestershire back in those early years”, he said. “They were always one of our strongest opponents, so it’s quite apt that they’ve been selected as our opposition for the 2015 Heritage Round.”

Wilson added: “I have always felt that the Outlaws were a club to be respected for doing things the right way both on and off the pitch and we are honoured that they have chosen our game with them to launch such an exciting initiative”.

Since the first meeting of the sides in 2000, which was won 26-24 by the Outlaws, the Nottingham side has enjoyed much the better of things, with the Warriors winning just three times prior to this season’s triumph. The last came in 2007 when two tries from Al Bryan and four goals from Andy King helped them to a 28-18 win at Chosen Hill.

The Warriors should be relatively refreshed after two weeks without a game and be looking to finish the season strongly and take a few wins from their final half dozen matches.

It won’t be easy as they have all three Welsh teams still to play as well as Coventry and Sheffield both of whom are battling along with the Outlaws for a top four spot.

Wilson added: “It’s a tough run-in but I’m confident we have the ability to finish the season strongly. It’s up to the boys to show it out on the pitch”.
