Phil Wilton - Message from the Chairman

Phil Wilton - Message from the Chairman image

To ALL players and club members.

It was with great reluctance that, on Friday, I accepted the immediate resignation of Phil Wilton as first team manager of Golden Hill Sports FC due to personal reasons.

Looking back at Phil's tenure as a founder member of GHSFC, it is difficult to overestimate the impact that he had on the formation, consolidation and eventual success of the football club. The rise of the first team (moving up 9 levels in the FA pyramid in 6 seasons) is unrivalled in local amateur Bristol during the same period and the addition of the reserves and third team can also be largely attributed to Phil's incredible enthusiasm and determination.

In truth Phil could, and should, have been awarded the Clubman of the Year awards for each of the seasons he was in charge but, typically, he took charge of the voting process himself and ensured his own recognition was secondary to others. It will take a huge effort by other individuals to fill the void left by Phil's resignation and it remains to be seen how the teams and club in general will perform in the months ahead.

I am sure everyone will be in agreement that Phil should be honoured at the next AGM with the first ever 'life membership' and we hope to see Phil at Golden Hill in a social capacity in the near future. His contribution will always be appreciated.

Shaun Parker
Chairman
GHSFC
