Goole U13s continued their upward trend on Sunday with a workmanlike performance and were rewarded with an impressive 39-29 win over a strong Moortown side.

Back in November, Moortown completely overwhelmed Goole with a 38-5 win at Westfield Banks but this is a much improved Goole side and while they never quite hit top gear they played well enough in patches and had plenty in the tank to win the game.

Plans were made at training to cut off ball supply to Moortowns two dangermen and although their centre who impressed at Goole grabbed a couple of tries using his pace and power, he was by and large a spectator and by the end has resorted to kicking the ball away and some petulant tackling.

With temperatures pushing the late teens, Goole's victory was built around a strong forward effort with Indie Cooper leading the charge from the front and they dominated both the scrum where they pushed Moortown around at every opportunity and the contact area, particularly the ruck, where they cleaned out well and won a constant stream of clean possession.

The backs also played their part with Tom Devenish and Tom Chappel mixing the play up well and Joe Grimbleby had his best morning of the season, strong in defence and attack.

Szymon Czubik helped himself to another hatrick, his pace, power and speed too much for the home side. Indie Cooper and Joe Grim both scored from short range, James Donoghue added his second in successive weeks powering over from a short tap penalty and Tom Devenish capped a man of the match performance with a try of his own.

It was the manner of the win that was pleasing for coaches and supporters in that there is still much more to come from this team and plenty to work on at training to fine tune some facets of play. Good to see was the Goole discipline, in the face of some tackling which bordered on dangerous as they kept their shape and composure and provided the best reponse - two quick tries to take the game away from Moortown and ultimately win the game.

The committment at training is starting to pay dividends and confidence is definitley growing within the group. The skills practices are starting to show through and the team is starting to function as a collective unit. Well done all, keep it up.
