Drive named after founder of Westfield Banks Sports Complex

At last Saturday's game in the company of Tim’s family, we have named the drive to the Club, Tim Richardson Way. In the mid-90’s, Tim Richardson recognised that Goole Rugby had outgrown the ground and clubhouse at Murham Ave, with the clubhouse especially needing major refurbishment. Many meetings with the Council resulted in planning permission being granted on Murham Ave and then on land at Westfield which had to be purchased. Tim coordinated the purchase of the Westfield site securing funding from friends of the Club. A great deal of time and effort went into negotiations to secure both RFU and Lottery funding for the Multi-sport facility we use today - a centre of excellence for Yorkshire Tennis and home to Goole Viking Striders and Goole RUFC. The clubhouse is used for a range of events from birthdays to weddings.
Matching the design and size of the facility to the allocated funding was a huge task, along with ensuring a viable funding plan was in place for ongoing site costs. Tim remained as Chairman of Westfield Banks Sporting Complex until very recently overseeing the governance of the site. Tim Richardson Way will be a lasting memory of his vision, fortitude and community spirit.
