The Community
Gordano RFC Community Development Programme continues to provide rugby for the wider community through its School Links Scheme which is now entering its 6th year.
Once again last summer we provided coaching for all 9 Primary Schools in Portishead, Pill, Portbury and Long Ashton culminating in the Pete Creber Memorial Tag festival at the Club in July. Last years festival welcomed 190 children to Caswell Lane. Congratulations to Crockerne School, Pill who won the event for the first time with some fantastic attacking rugby.
This was be followed by coaching sessions in both Gordano and St.Katherines Schools, helping to introduce contact rugby to their year 7 pupils.
As we speak we are organising this years scheme, hopefully bigger and better!
Gordano RFC fund and help supply the coaches to provide this valuable help to all the local schools.
The aim of the scheme is to raise the profile of both Rugby and Gordano RFC in the local community and targets the age when children are most likely to be introduced to the sport. The programme in both Junior and Secondary Schools continues on an annual basis.
Funding for the scheme comes from the club, RFU funding and most importantly The Pete Creber Memorial Fund. The fund was set up in Pete's memory to provide rugby opportunities for local youngsters and works closely with the club. Thanks to the Trustees for their continued support.
Work within the community is an important part of a modern rugby clubs development and as a progressive club, Gordano RFC are proud of their recent achievements in this area.
