Battling Greens Just Fall Short
Gorleston were much improved after last weeks humiliating home defeat and were close to gaining a surprise point.
There were four changes from the Boxing Day draw with Yarmouth. Out went Harley Clements, Jackson Ramm and Joel Watts with Elliott Hannant dropping to the bench.
George Yusuff, Ross Gilfedder, Owen French and Daniel Pinheiro all started.
There was also a change of formation with the Greens opting for a back 5.
The hosts had the better of the opening exchanges. A ninth minute free kick was deflected wide of Taurean Molloy's goal before Miles Powell found himself in behind the Gorleston defence but his shot lacked any conviction and bobbled into Molloy's arms.
Mitch McKay then found himself inside the Felixstowe box but his shot was also tame and straight to the keeper.
Aarron Taylor had to slide across to keep out Joe Francis after he had outpaced the Greens defence before the Seasiders took the lead in the 24th minute.
A free kick midway inside the Gorleston half was lofted into the box by Stuart Boardley. It looked to be going to Molloy but seemed to hold up in the wind, dropping down into the six yard box where Kye Ruel bundled it over the line.
Gorleston responded well and more positively and almost immediately Peter Lambert had an effort tipped onto the crossbar by Felixstowe keeper Danny Crump.
Felixstowe looked nervy at the back as the Greens applied some pressure with Crump denying Lambert again then, from the resulting corner, a cheeky Lambert backheel was cleared away off the line.
The big chest of Aarron Taylor blocked a Powell shot after Molloy was beaten before Kyle Ingram was the recipient of what looked a two-footed challenge but somehow found himself in the referees book after being judged the aggressor, presumably because his opponent stayed down injured, although no treatment was required.
Three minutes before the break, Gorleston equalised when they countered from a Felixstowe attack.
Ingram burst in on goal and squared to McKay. McKay's shot was well saved, the ball rebounding back to McKay who found his second effort blocked as well. This time the ball rebounded back out to Ingram who poked it into the net.
And better was to come for Gorleston fans.
As the half entered its final minute, Ingram swung a corner over from the right and it was met by the head of Ross Gilfedder at the back post who put his side in front.
However, the lead was wiped out in the first minute of the second half.
A long throw from the right was met in the middle of the six yard box by Powell who turned it into the net.
Once more Ingram found himself on the end of a nasty looking challenge which sparked a minor melee. This time Ingram did get the free kick and the referee dished out cards like it was still Christmas whilst Ingram received a visit from Micky Wright.
Felixstowe regained the lead in the 54th minute in disappointing circumstances from a Gorleston point of view after they were given far too much time and space on the left to put in a cross and Powell found himself unchallenged in the middle of the Greens box to plant his header firmly past Molloy.
Jordy Matthews tried to use the wind to curl an effort in but the ball didn't bend enough to bother Molloy before Ingram pounced on a half clearance at the other end but blazed his shot over the bar.
The hosts then had a shot from Scott Chaplin bounce away off the top of the bar.
David Shade was pushed up front and the lively Jack Cottingham introduced in an attempt to find the equaliser they deserved but the Greens were tiring and Felixstowe knew how to close the game out.
