A small but select group of players contested the re-scheduled Hilton Place Kicking Competition, which had to be postponed last week due to the abnormal Spring weather!
The late appearance of four time winner and present holder, Mark Anderson, sent a few shock waves through the assembled group, but a quiet word from self-imposed favourite for the trophy and Club captain, Joe Woodhams, persuaded Mark not to risk aggravating his slipped disc! The former started proceedings with a successful kick from under the posts, but that proved to be Joe's only real moment of celebration. His final kick, which ended up 10 metres behind him, was more typical of his performance! A generally pretty ordinary display of kicking by the assembled group saw the eventual winner being the complete outsider, Alex Cokeley, with a seven out of ten success rate. Long distance exocet specialists, Mat Struthers and Andrew Camplejohn, were no doubt put off with the unwritten rule of "If you kick it over the fence, you fetch it!" Thanks go to the massive crowd of spectators, who assisted greatly and provide after-match hot dogs!
