An awards night with a difference this year in a Zoom event

This week the club rounded off what will be one of the strangest seasons that we will all be a part of, as we celebrated the great performances in what was eventually a campaign cut short by issues bigger than mere sport. The presentation evening is always one of the best nights of the year for the club and we decided to try and make as much of an occasion of it as we could, resulting in a brilliant turnout of members on Zoom getting together to applaud their team-mates and thank those doing the tireless work off the pitch to keep pushing the club forward.

This season's Clubperson of the year went to manager of the thirds for the majority of the season, Sameel Dar. Chairman, Jack, Norbury, highlighted his continued efforts to try and do whatever he can to help out at the club, throughout what was a challenging season for Sameel, on his coaching journey.

The individual awards for Most Improved Player in each of the sides were given out first on the evening. The trophy for the third team was given to Sam Wright for a strong season with the club. The second team award was given to Ben Tolhill, who has developed well this season and keeps looking to improve. The first team gong was picked up by a thoroughly deserving Jason Eme, who just kept growing and becoming more consistent throughout the season and became a regular part of an impressive defensive unit.

The Players' Player and Manager's Player award for the third team were both won by the impressive Humza Chaudry. His performances for the third team saw him forcing his way into the second team before the season was curtailed. Player's Player for the reserves saw a back-to-back winner as Centre Midfielder, Chris Wyche, took the award for the second season in a row. Manager's Player for the reserves went to club stalwart Rowan Pollock. There has been some daft talk that this might be Rowan's last season for the club but manager, James Stokes, made it clear how much Rowan still has to offer the side every time he pulls on a shirt.

Player's Player for the first team was a hotly contested award with good performances across the side seeing plenty of people picking up votes from their team-mates this season. There were notable mentions for Chris Lewis, Jake Pearson and, last year's winner, James Badrock with third placed Alex Ouzounoglou getting the closest to the two lads fighting it out for the award. It came down to a single point on the voting as Dave Badrock was just edged out by Matt Turner. The Manager's Player award echoed the players' view on things with Jack naming club captain, Alex, in a close second place and deciding that for the first time in 18 years it was too tight to call a winner and that it would be shared by Matt and Dave this season.

There were some landmark rewards hit across the teams this season too. For 1st Team appearances Adam Clifford, in his second spell with the club, moved past the 100 games mark whilst Adil Ajmal, James Badrock and Nathan Hind all moved past 50 games. There were also some 3rd team landmarks hit as Andy Laing moved past 100 appearances and Craig McCullough notched up his 50th game for the side.

There were some great comments about the outgoing James Stokes and Kerrie Buckley, and the committee can't say enough good things about their contribution to the club and the impact they have had on our growth. They will be sorely missed and the door will always be open to a return should they wish. It was re-iterated how much the club wants to get some new faces on the committee with a real energy and desire to help drive on the project, and also how keen we are to ensure the door is open to as diverse a range of voices and views to lead the club as possible.

It is obviously a shame that we couldn't get together for a proper party, some stand-up bingo, the raffle, some drinks, food and laughs but it was nice to get everyone together in testing circumstances to talk about plans for the future and how much we want to hit next season at a sprint.

Until pre-season, whenever that may be, take care and we'll see you soon.
