The morning saw our nation progress serenely into the semi finals of World Cup for the first time for 24 years. A remarkable achievement!
The afternoon continued to witness Gowerton fielding three sides every Saturday! An excellent achievement. It also witnessed a particular and peculiar strength of the club in that the seconds are, and always have been, willing to travel when struck short of a full compliment of troops. This was one of those occasions. Indeed two of the depleted travelers made their debuts for the club whilst it was good to see another returning to the fold after a few years absence.
As for the performance... Sterling! Everyone put in 100%, everyone tackled- true only 4 people were playing in their recognized positions but that experience will only embolden the spirit and stand us in good stead for the season. A season in which the optimism continue to grow- a staggering 31 players have graced the field for the seconds this season. Fingers crossed that we avoid a repeat of last year's mini ice age!
After consulting our good and sporting friends at Abercrave the two clubs have decided to postpone next week's fixture to allow minds to be concentrated on the semi final in Auckland. They of course have one of their own in Adam Jones in next Saturday's starting line up whilst Leigh Halfpenny is the grandson of former Gowerton captain, Malcolm Halfpenny.
The seconds will no doubt be looking forward to the rearranged fixture as it's always a warm welcome there and generally regarding as the best away trip of the lot!!
