The first meeting between The Starch and Swansea Medicals turned into an engrossing encounter that was very much in the balance right up to the final whistle. Despite enjoying the majority of possession in the first quarter Gowerton were unable to convert pressure into points and the students, playing their first game of the season, went into half time 5 -0 up after some excellent attacking phases of play led to an unconverted try.
The Starch drew level early in the second half after good forward work saw second row Jamie Davies crash over. The visitors then edged into the lead through a Bleddyn James penalty but had to repel some concerted pressure from the home side in order to hold on for the win. Both sides can feel pleased with their performances! It was especially heartening from a Gowerton point of view to have such a large squad to draw on; this allowed some player rotation in the heat!!
The Medics will have their chance to reverse their fortunes when the two sides meet again in March!
