With only three fixtures surviving the poor weather, Goytre United were keen to get the game on, and were looking to close the gap at the top. A win today could possibly push the Goyt into third position providing results went our way.
The Goyt got out of the blocks quickly and controlled possession for long periods. Several half chances were carved out but none troubled ex Goytre keeper Nicky Church in the Cwmbran goal.
The blues dominated for long periods with Cwmbran looking to counter attack at all times.
The half finished all square with the Goyt disappointed not to be up at the break.
The second half started with an early set back for the Goyt with a defensive mix up allowing Cwmbran to go one up.
They say in football if you dont turn your possession into goals it can bite you back, and thats what exactly happened. More chances were squandered by the Goyt and against the run of play our visitors hit us with a second goal.
Cwmbran were organised and resolute at the back and they hit the Goyt on the counter and took advantage of their chances. Our possession and quality was superb at times but we lacked that killer final touch.
Several chances were squandered in the second half, Robbie Walters pulled a goal back for the Goyt after seventy five minutes but heroic defending by Cwmbran bagged them the points in the end.
The Goyt will be disappointed to lose, but their performance was very good and on another day could have won the game well.
Congratulations to Cwmbran Celtic on the win which pushes them up to second.
