Goytre United put up a brave fight but eventually went down 6-2 at Prestatyn Town.
With our hosts moral high after virtually ensuring themselves a top six Welsh Premier finish this was going to be a stiff test.
Goytre United went into this tye with a total of seven first team players missing.
Promoted from the Reserves were Liam Mc Ginley and David Jones, with coach Darren Lyons and Robert Shannon returning from injury on the subs bench.
Prestatyn Town from the Welsh Premier League are very strong at home and they use the conditions very well.
What was un known to the Goyt was the blustery Bastion Gardens wind,
of which our hosts play very, very well.
The first half was an evenfull half with good football played by both teams. Prestatyn with Ross Stephens prominant and player manager Neil Gibson dominating, it was the Goyt who carved out several chances.
United took the lead after twenty minutes when good work by Jacob Daly down the right who crossed perfectly for Richard Ryan to head home.
This spurred Prestatyn on and they carved out numerous chances looking for the equaliser, this came after thirty five minutes when man of the match Ross Stephens scored with a quality volley.
The second half was a different ball game to the first for the Goyt, with Prestatyn player manager Neil Gibson altering his formation and pushing extra men forward. At this stage the Goyt found it extremely dificult to get out of their own half. The wind at this stage was gail force with any football against the wind impossible. To Prestayns credit they played the conditions very well and when they scored their second it was always going to be dificult for the Goyt. Further goals came for our hosts who fully showed why they are a top six Welsh Premier League team. A second goal scored by Richard Ryan from the penalty spot was a consolation.
To summerise, Prestatyn Town on the day were to strong for the Goyt. Going to such a place like Prestatyn with seven first team players missing was always going to be tough.
The wind played a massive part in the game but Prestatyn fully deserved their win and will be a force in the competition especially if drawn at home.
Congratulations to them and we wish them all the best in the next round.
