We had the chances to win it...but come back twice to get the point!!

We welcomed our neighbours Borrowash Victoria to the Raygar Arena this weekend. With a really strong wind in our face from the start, we weathered some early pressure from the visitors. Chris Morris & Gaz Charlesworth began to get the passing going in the middle of the park..releasing Mitch Williams & Jim Gladwin a couple of times. However, after 8 minutes, we fell behind to an unchallenged header..0-1. Prims rolled up their sleeves & didn't let the reverse get to us. Instead stringing together some good moves of our own..Mike Jukka & Steve McDade looking dangerous. But the wind was really helping our opponents & Chris Gregory was called on to rush out of his goal a number of times to clear up. Just before half time we got a chance for a breakthrough... Gaz Charlesworths through ball found Mike Jukka, who showed a clean pair of heels to the Vics defence...but was brought down just as he was pulling the trigger for a penalty. Mitch stepped up, but scuffed his shot & the keeper saved with his legs. From the resulting corner there appeared to be a hand used to block Jim Gladwins shot!! However we went in 0-1 down at half time. Second half we really took the game to our visitors. Our passing game began to open up the visitors defence who were all on yellow cards.... We got the reward for our great pressure.. Steve McDade's pressure from the corner forced the keeper to punch.... the ball fell to Martin Green who made no mistake..1-1. 2 minutes later we were back to square one..a run down our left & ball into the centre of our defence...1-2. we came storming back again..Mike Jukka going close.. then a Jim Gladwin shot forced the keeper to save low down. We won a succession of corners & free kicks...Chris Morris curling one into the top corner...the vics keeper just getting his fingers to the ball & turning it over. Then the move of the match, Harry Davies, Alex Brown & Joe Condon involved in the build up with Samson Cagnani, who ran the length of the pitch linking the move & steering home the equaliser. The remaining 20 minutes belonged to Prims, as we cut open the visitors defence time & again...but unfortunate finishing let Vics off the hook & the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Another great effort from our players & although we should maybe have won. we will take the positives from the draw. This was a real blood & thunder derby game & very competitive. We keep this good run of form going & look forwards to the mid week game Vs Heanor Town.
