Stags retain Orkney 7s Shield and record league win at Boness

The stags made their usual trip north last Saturday to take part in the Orkney 7s. Once again the party contained the usual mix of 1sts, 2nds, guests and youngsters. On a warm spring-like day Grangemouth struggled in the pool matches. Clearly jet lag was affecting their performance. Allan ambled in for 3 trys in the opening match before the Stags came up against a strong Peebles team to lose heavily. They won the 3rd match to go into the cup quarter final against Orkney. The home side were quickly 2 scores up but the Stags fought back to lead midway through the 2nd half. However a couple of late trys meant the Stags were into the Shield semi final. This was won at a canter and then in the final the Stags dominated the East to retain the shield. Squad- S Allan,F Clyne,K Forsyth, C Hendrry, A Hind, DJ Innes, A Mncube, T Rutherford, G Scott and G Taylor.

Meanwhile back on the mainland the 2nd XV season rumbled on. The 2nd string made the short trip toBo'Ness and returned with a 45 - 13 victory. This week the Stags 2nds travel to Anstruther to take on Waid with a 3pm KO. On Saturday night the club are holding the players and supporters dinner and presentation of awards.
