Former Norwich City and Aston Villa assistant manager Ian Culverhouse has been announced as the clubs new first team manager with immediate effect.

Culverhouse (53) met with the board earlier this week and outlined his plans and vision for the clubs future, one which mirrored those of the board. Having made the five man shortlist from 17 applicants for the position the former Football League defender who made over 500 appearances was duly offered the position after a short consultation between the six members of the panel in attendance.

Following an 18-year playing career which began with Tottenham Hotspur (Where he won a UEFA Cup medal) he moved to Norwich City in 1985, where he spent the next nine years of his professional career. Following his departure from Carrow Road, Ian joined Swindon Town, where he spent a further four years, before a brief spell with Kingstonian in 1998. His final Football League club was Brighton & Hove Albion before beginning his managerial career.

His first stop on the Football League ladder was assistant manager with Barnet, before moving to Leyton Orient (during which time he came to the Meres for the 2003/04 FA Cup defeat). In 2005 he moved to Wycombe Wanderers, it was whilst at Wycombe he would link-up with Paul Lambert for the first time. In October 2008, following Lambert's appointment at Colchester, Culverhouse followed where they spent the remainder of the 2008/09 campaign before his move back To Norwich, again as Lambert's assistant. A spell which saw them claim back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

This prompted a move in July 2012 for Lambert and Culverhouse to Premier League rivals Aston Villa, where Culverhouse spent the next two years. Following his departure from Villa Park, Ian spent a year with Dagenham & Redbridge as assistant manager before he took his first step as a Number 1 in his own right, taking the reins of Southern Premier League side King's Lynn Town. His first full-year in the job at The Walks saw the Linnets clock-up 100 points as they finished runners-up to Hereford FC, before losing the play-off final at home to Slough Town 2-1.

Ian's first job will be to meet last seasons squad as well as backroom staff and explain his plans ahead of the 2018/19 campaign which begins on Saturday 18th August.

Following the appointment of Culverhouse, Chairman Roger Booth had this to say "I'm delighted Ian has agreed to become our manager, we hope he can build on the momentum the club has, things are happening in all areas of the club and everyone associated with it has every right to be positive about the clubs future." Before adding "I would like to thank all the other applicants for the position, we really did have a high calibre of managers apply for the position, which made the task for the board that little more difficult, but in Ian I feel we have made the right choice for the clubs future."
