Grantham Hit for Five By Barwell

Grantham Lose 5-0 to Barwell

Grantham were on the wrong end of a 5-0 score line when they entertained Barwell at the Meres
Barwell were a goal up inside 2 minutes when Sam Purcicoe could only deflect a cross into his own net. Barwell went 2 up after 6 minutes when Cameron Powell netted after Grantham’s defence had failed to clear the ball. Barwell pushed Grantham back and Brad Hickey sliced his shot wide from a good position on 14 minutes and 2 minutes later Grantham were saved by an offside flag as Anthony Carney burst through. Barwell made it 3 on 17 minutes Alex Tomkinson headed home from a corner. Grantham did rally and Lee Shaw had a shot saved by keeper Liam Castle and on 20 minutes the Barwell keeper came out to head clear as Shaw closed in. Both sides has shouts for a penalty as first Lee Shaw then Anthony Carney went down in the box but the referee waved aside the appeals. Barwell returned to the attack and it took a double tackle from Purcicoe to deny first Dominic Brennan and then Declan Towers. Lee Shaw was crowded out by Towers on 38 minutes and 2 minutes later Jake Turner saved Grantham with a good one handed save from Barwells Nisvic. The half ended with Barwell good value for their 3 goal lead.
Danny Meadows got the ball over the Barwell keeper in the first minute of the half but the ball went wide of the goal. Jake turner had to race out to clear on 55 minutes and then had to save a Barwell free kick from 25 yards. Barwells Dominic Brennan had a chance on the hour when he fired wide after an excellent 4 man move had split open the Grantham defence. Barwell went 4 up on 66 minutes when Brady Hicky netted from the edge of the box and the same player made it 5 on 70 minutes with a 30 yard strike that flew past Turner. Grantham introduced Stephan Bilyk and Lee Beeson for Greg Smith and Lawrence Gorman and then 9 minutes from the end Vagaroso replaced Shaw but it was Barwell substitute Iyseden Christie who twice went close before the game ended with Barwell 5-0 winners.
