Can The Gingerbreads Make It Eight In A Row?

3 months ago By Callum Boyle

Grantham are looking to continue their promotion push this weekend when they make the lengthy trip to face Lancaster City.

After securing a 1-1 draw at home to Witton Albion on Saturday, thanks to a last minute equaliser from Rhys Lewis, the Gingerbreads managed to make it seven games unbeaten in the league.

Despite not playing on Tuesday night, Town's position was still affected, seeing them drop to 3rd in the league after Shaw Lane's 3-1 away win to Coalville on Tuesday night.

Saturday's opposition Lancaster have been struggling for form recently, with just one win in their last five games, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Rushall Olympic on Tuesday night. Although form has been sceptical for the home side, they remain 12th in the league and only nine points off the final play-off place, currently held by Ashton United.

Grantham have already met Lancaster once this season, seeing them come from behind twice to win 3-2 at the Meres, with a Jordan Hempenstall goal and a brace from Curtis Burrows securing the three points.

Gingerbreads boss Adam Stevens has said that his side needs to continue the strength they have shown mentally and physically to get the three points: "We showed our mental character last Saturday by fighting to the end to get a point on Saturday. We will be prepared for a physical battle on Saturday and make sure that we are playing to our maximum ability to come back with three points."

Tom Batchelor is still suspended for this weekend's game and Luke Shaw is also unavailable through injury. The rest of the squad has been declared fit to play.
