The Gingerbreads put on a near perfect display to win 4-1 at the Meres this afternoon against Barwell.

With Adam Stevens laid up on hospital following his hip operation, Danny Martin and Dennis Rhule took charge of The Gingerbreads.

The starting 11 was unchanged from Thursday's win at Shaw Lane, Jordan Hempenstall replaced Jack McMenemy on the bench.

The opening quarter of an hour was interrupted by the Referee's whistle, meaning The Gingerbreads couldn't get fully into gear. On 17 minutes a Barwell free kick brought an excellent save from Kieran Preston. He then had to get down well at his near post from the resulting corner.

On 24 minutes Curtis Burrows tried a long range shot which was safely gathered by the Barwell keeper.

Barwell got in behind The Gingerbreads defence on 27 minutes but Stefan Galinski recovered well to get the ball clear.

Just after the half hour, The Gingerbreads were involved in some goal mouth ping pong but none of them could get the ball into the back of the net.

Curtis Burrows, on 25 minutes, took a free kick in hope of repeating his one at Shaw Lane. However this one, hit the wall.

With 37 minutes gone, The Gingerbreads took the lead. Zayn Hakeem found himself in space 12 yards out and was able to turn the ball beyond the Barwell keeper.

Danny Meadows had the opening chance of the second half but his crashed against the post.

The Gingerbreads crowd were dismayed on 49 minutes when it appeared to everyone the Barwell defender appeared to use his arm to clear the ball, the Referee and his Assistant saw different.

It didn't matter as The Gingerbreads pushed on from there and 4 minutes later, doubled their lead. Zayn Hakeem ran onto a long ball down the left channel, and whipped a cross in which the Barwell couldn't deal with and the ball fell to Danny Meadows who only had to tap home.

With The Gingerbreads looking comfortable Rhys Lewis, Curtis Burrows and Lee Shaw were replaced, Andrew Wright, Sam Osborne and Jordan Hempenstall all coming on.

On 82 minutes Sam Osborne raced through beating the offside trap before settling himself and slotting the ball beyond the Barwell keeper.

Barwell pulled a goal back on 88 minutes when Matt Stenson chased down a long ball and poked it passed Kieran Preston.

As the match went into additional time, Ollie Luto ran along the edge of the box and deftly played the ball to Danny Meadows who only had tap home.

The 4-1 win and results elsewhere, meant The Gingerbreads climbed up-to 4th place in the table.

The Gingerbreads return to action on Tuesday night when we travel to in form Stlaybridge Celtic.
