Division 4: Gravesend Ladies 2’s v Marden Russets Ladies 2nd (1-3)
Saturday 10th February. Away. Push back 14.00
The game started evenly with both teams putting pressure on their respective goals, leading to good saves from the goal keepers. The wet and windy conditions made it difficult to control the passes for both teams. Despite good defending from GLHC, Marden found a way through and opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Although GLHC fought back, Marden scored again on the break just before half time.
In the second half, GLHC came back strongly with a good period of pressure on the Marden goal. The break for GLHC came from a run up the left wing by Claire Stevens who passed Marden players and into the D with a strong hit along the back line which curled towards the goal. The ball came off the goalies stick to give GLHC their goal. A period of pressure from GLHC saw a great short corner strike by Charlie Avery saved by the goalie and a goal by Debbie Hamer was disallowed as the whistle had already gone. Marden scored again late in the game from a short corner to take the score to 3-1. Other highlights included, Isabel Williams saving a goal on the line and Marden missing a penalty flick by hitting the post. Overall it was a well fought game with good chances and saves at both ends.
