Hampton & Richmond Borough V Grays Athletic
Grays Athletic are back in cup action this weekend in the First Qualifying Round of the FATrophy away to fellow Ryman Premier side Hampton & Richmond.
This competition of course has happy memories for Blues fans who enjoyed the wins at Villa Park and Upton Park in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Hosts Hampton had their best run in the FA Trophy
during the 2008/09 season when they reached the last 32 before losing at Hereford United.
Grays will hope that a change of competition will bring a change of fortune following the defeat away to Leiston in the league in midweek. Grays will be hopeful that the full back pairing of Jey
Siva and Aaron Best are available again after the pair missed the midweek game in Suffolk.
Hampton also tasted defeat in their last game, a 6-0 defeat to Wealdstone in the Middlesex Senior Cup last Saturday. Beavers manager Alan Dowson has looked to strengthen his squad this week by bringing in 2 goalkeepers.
19 year old Zaki Oualah has joined after playing recently for
Metropolitan Police and 18 year old Mark Smith has signed on loan from Brentford.
The sides have met in this competition before back in October 1985. Grays won a replay at The Beveree 1-0, following a 0-0 draw at the Recreation Ground three days earlier.
The sides have also met in Hampton already this season with Grays running out convincing 4-0 winners, but the hosts have changed a lot of their team since then.
