Colleen Walker was speaking at our photo exhibition, which was opened by the Mayor on Monday.
She says despite being born and bred in the borough, the exhibition taught her about parts of the club’s history that she wasn’t aware of.
Mrs Walker said: “The hours [officials] put in just to make this club work I’d like to think people would appreciate that and I congratulate them on that.”
“Looking round the room at the wealth of information that the club has and have gathered it has showed me something I never knew about. It will be sad to see the club lose that because if you don’t use it, you lose it.”
Also guest speakers at the launch were ex-Yarmouth Town goalkeeper Brian Wadsworth, who made his last appearance for Yarmouth Town in 1962, and former manager Paul Tong, the club’s second longest manager.
Both guests enthralled the gathered crowd with stories recollecting moments of camaraderie at various stages of the club’s history, with their exploits in the Norfolk Senior Cup featuring heavily.
Photos and memorabilia dating back to the early 1900s were on show at the exhibition, hosted at the Bloaters Bar, along with newspaper cuttings of success on the Wellesley pitch, including the FA Cup run of the early ‘50s.
The photo exhibition will be open until August 3 in the clubhouse and is free to enter.
