Greetland Steel Steals the Show

One word: Awesome! That sums up Greetland’s performance, attitude and endeavour against a good Siddal outfit today. Following a few disappointing results and lacklustre performances, Coach Seal urged his team to be more dogged, show more aggression, determination and commitment – and was not let down.

The pre-match team talk did the trick as Greetland’s defence came flying out of the traps to stifle Siddal’s attacking flair. Joseph Hurst stepped up to the plate with an outstanding display of strong running to get Greetland close to the line, leading for the player of the match, Maddie Hutchinson, to steamroller Siddal’s line and touch down for Greetland’s first try.

The positive, strong attacking play continued. Lil once again proved elusive for their defenders and Joe Robinson showed off his neat footwork, producing a fine grubber which so nearly led to a try. Our new payers were getting to grips with things too. Coran Fairbairn showed some grit with direct, pacey drives, ably backed up by his bigger brother, Wilf who’s taken to Rugby League like a Greetland duck to water.

At times, Siddal showed some good passing moves, but Greetland’s defence was much more compact than recent games and top tackler Joseph Hurst put in some big hits. His team mated didn’t let him down – everyone playing their part in trying to keep a good side out. Going forward, Greetland once again showed their flair. Several offloads and quick passes from Lil, Joe and Maddie saw the ball fall to Ellis Armstrong who put in a suburb grubber which was quickly pounced on by Joe to get Greetland’s second score.

Once again, Alfie Roberts was on fire in attack and defence – making some super runs and putting in the hard work when needed without the ball. His energy led to out Super Woman, Maddie, to go over for our third try of the game.

This was a great team performance from a Greetland side determined to show their coach what they can do. They were quick off the line in defence, showed urgency in attack and most of all, they left the field with smiles on their faces knowing they’d given absolutely everything for their coach and done all they could to support their teammates.
