Another strong performance from The Mighty Allrounders.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man!

We turned up at Wyke with only 6 players and 5 minutes to warm up before kick-off, due to being given wrong kick of times. Wyke had 12 players and big ones at that! We were going to have to step up to the mark, and step up they did.

Issy Murray, back after missing the last 3 games and with God on her side, setting the power and pace of the game with her strong direct running, showing Wyke that this was going to be no walk over.

It was end to end stuff, with Alfie Roberts carrying on where he left off last week, getting Greetland on the score board, with a powering run onto the ball combined with some great foot work.

We were fast off the line in defence, with Noah Simeounavich & Maddie Hutchinson putting in big hit after big hit. Noah complimenting this with a fine try, beating two men and going 20m down the touch line like a tram, to score in the corner. Alfie adding another try to his tally with some fine ball skills. We went into the break just behind but with all to play for.

A great defensive set from the kick off saw us keep Wyke’s big lads out yet again. Maddie Hutchinson was next to score, one of her two tries, using the slope to her advantage to power over from 10m out, with 5 Wyke players in attendance. The ever elusive Karl Bratley used the extra space available, due to it being 6 a side, to weave his magic with some jinking running and turning, gaining us vital meters, set after set. And inevitably getting a well-deserved try.

Greetland defended their line ferociously, with Wyke having to throw everything they had, to get over the line, Maddie and Issy leading the way. Alfie and Noah added further to their tally, to finish with a hat-trick a piece.

But last mention has to go to our MVP Jack Hook, who in only his second game, tackled everything that came his way, using great technique to halt the opposition’s biggest players in their tracks. Then, storming onto the ball, and brushing two defenders aside, showed a great turn of pace to score in the corner.

The blistering Wyke sunshine and lack of substitutes, took its toll in the second half, Karl Bratley, Issy Murray & Alfie Roberts bravely playing on after being injured, but with energy levels being sapped Wyke just edged the game.

The u9s are growing in confidence every week and with players back and a bit of cloud cover, the home fixture at ours looks like it will be a stormer of a game.
