A BRIEF HISTORY
GRIMSBY BOROUGH F.C.:
It is hard to believe that Grimsby Borough was founded as recently as 2003 when seven men had the vision to set up this club ..........and we are now in our first season at a brand new stadium with state-of-the-art facilities. It has been quite a journey.
Known as ‘The Wilderness Boys’ because we had no ground of our own, Borough were still able to gain promotion in three successive years and won the Centenary Lincs League Cup and the Ashby Benefit Cup. The search for a home continued and we were privileged as well as proud to call Brigg Town’s ground, ‘The Hawthorns’ our home for three seasons.
We have always been grateful to our local sponsors- many of them small businesses who wanted to show their support for our teams- but we also acknowledge the many years of support from main sponsors Nicol and then, beginning last season- our new main sponsor: the Grimsby Institute who share our vision of bringing the ideals of ‘the beautiful game’ to our community.
Meanwhile, North East Lincs Council were becoming aware of the lack of community facilities in Grimsby, a town with a proud foot-balling history, so they set about the planning and building of the new Bradley Community Stadium with its premier pitch, G3 pitch and many others for players of all ages and levels of skill.
It is our privilege to be the flagship club at this wonderful stadium: ‘The Wilderness Boys’ have come home at last!
