It's two Cup Finals in two seasons for Borough

WILKINSON SWORD TROPHY SEMI FINAL

GRIMSBY BOROUGH 5 v 2 ALBION SPORTS

Match Sponsor: FORRESTER BOYD

Grimsby Borough, sponsored by Newby Leisure Limited, crushed Albion Sports at the FDC last night to make the Final of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy for the first time in their short history.

On a cold night Borough, playing in front of a healthy looking crowd, took the game to their opponents from the first whistle.

Albion who appear to have the advantage over Borough this season were quite prepared to give as good as they got and the opening minutes 10 minutes saw the ball travelling from one end to the other.

On 15 minutes Nathan Emson opened the scoring for Borough with a smart finish. Ten minutes later and Borough fans were in seventh heaven when Fuller beat the keeper from an acute angle .

Borough having lead in the two previous meetings this season appeared to settle back at 2-0 and Albion made them pay when Cussack beat keeper Cook to give the game a half time scoreline of Borough 2 v 1 Albion.

The second half started well for the Wilderness Boys and with a little more settled shootiung the advantage could quickly have been doubled. However in the 60th minute Borough won a free kick 5 yards outside the area.

Lee Stephenson struck the kick straight at the Albion keeper who dropped to one knee to collect it, the ball bobbled and the keeper let it slip between his legs and into the net for Borough's third.

Surely now the game was settled but no back came Albion and on 70 minutes Cusack got his and Albion's second with a smart finish after an immpresive peice of play.

Suddenly all hell broke out on the edge of the area with the Assistant Referee raising his flag. After a lengthy discussion with his Assistant the Referee sent off an Albion playing for a punch.

Now surely the game was Borough's but with both sides going on the attack chances reigned at both ends. Fortunately a superb finish by Andy Taylor on 80 minutes, a curled shot into the top corner of the net, gave Borough that precious two goal advantage and when James Deeming finished from close range in injury time it was celebration time for the BLUE ARMY at long last.

The full time whistle was greeted with delight by all the players and fans in the ground as well as messages of congratulations coming in from all over.

This was another thrilling night at the FDC and if this form continues Borough will soon be climbing up the Baris NCEL table.

The Man of the Match was selected by our Match Sponsors FORRESTER BOYD and they selected JOSH FULLER
