The Newby Leisure sponsored Grimsby Borough traveled Selby Town who sat bottom of the Baris NCEL Division One. Borough had made 4 changes to the starting 11 and 3 changes on the bench.

Borough started the game coming under a lot of pressure from the robins however it was Borough who took the lead. A great through ball from Luke Fanthorpe on to Andy Taylor who passed it back to Ricky Forrest who whipped the ball in towards Steve Davis who was dominated 3 against 1 in the box somehow managed to the win ball and headed it into the back of the net. It was only moments later when Borough thought that they had a penalty when Andy Taylor appeared to be fouled as he ran towards the keeper one on one, a fortunate decision for Selby and imparticually the defender himself. Borough then doubled their lead when a powerless Andy Taylor strike slipped through the hosts keepers hand in a howler of an error.

Borough came out for the second half knowing that they couldn't settle down yet it was Selby who came out on the attack but James Stewart pulled off some good saves. However with 12 minutes left Selby really put the pressure on when they put the ball in the net despite Borough keeper Stewart looking to be fouled in the build up the goal was given. Pressure still headed towards the Borough goal but a great team effort completed a great victory for Borough. It was announced after the game that the robins manager Paul Jones would resign with immediate effect.
