Boro start the year with a win
7 different scorers share 8 goals
So 2018 is here and we started with an away day at Sutton Rovers and what a day it turned out to be. Christmas and New Year over it was time to run off all that turkey and beer consumed over the last 2 weeks.
The game started well after only 30 seconds Jack Wilson
headed home Billy Nicholson's cross only to see the linesman's flag raised, goal not given. But in the 7th minute Boro did get the lead, Josh Stark
flicking CJ PEART
's free kick pass the keeper. 0-1. In the 12th minute Boro doubled the lead, Aaron McKenzie
who's sidefoot volley from Jack Wilson
's pin point cross found the bottom corner. 0-2. In the 27th minute Sutton thought they had scored but after a quick chat between the ref and his assistant this goal was not given either. Boro continued to attack and the Sutton keeper was making some great saves (later found out he normally plays in midfield), but he was beaten again in the 40th minute with a cracking 30 yard free kick from Jack Wilson
. 0-3. half time.
A change in goal for Boro saw Harrison Tice
replace Simon Krawczyk
and the second half got under way and Boro started this half like the first and again in that first minute had the ball in the net, captain Bradley Elliott
knocking in Nicholson's 2nd cross after his first was sliced back to him by Jamie Loftus
(Rob's words not mine Jamie). 0-4. And it wasn't long before it Nicholson got his second, Loftus crossing to Bill who's first time shot flew into the net. 0-5 53 mins. In the 63rd minute Sutton got one back bit of a scramble but the ball ending up in the back of the net. 1-5. But Boro just went up the other end and added another Wilson's cross knocked in by Billy Nicholson with a nice volley. 1-6. In the 70th minute Jamie Loftus
scored a 6th, he pressured the Sutton keeper who tried to dribble round Loftus but failed leaving Jamie the simple task of walking the ball into the net. 1-7. Sutton added a 2nd in the 73th minute ( sorry missed it as was having a quick look at the game going on, on the other pitch ). 2-7. But like the last time Sutton scored Boro just attacked and scored again, this time Loftus with a great little flick to the advancing Josh Tidswell
who found the bottom right corner to end the scoring for Boro. 2-8 74 mins. Sutton did add another goal in the 79th minute, poor defending saw the forward with to much time to get his shot past Tice. 3-8. So the ref Pete Goy ended the game and Boro took the points and they move up to 2nd in the table.
Today's Lucarly's man of the Match was a hard decision this week but the Boro manager choose Josh Stark
, got the first goal and was a leader at the back today.
So my views, what to say, an easy day at the office. Disappointed Boro conceded 3 goals but when going forward and you look like scoring every time players do push forward trying to get in on the action leaving gaps at the back, Sutton in the 2nd half pushed men forward hoping to at least get a goal or 2 which they did. Saying that the defence changed when the subs came on and that's when the goals came from Sutton, Our defence is starting to look solid again like the back end of last season, but with a stronger squad this year it gives manager Scott a headache he will like.
So up next for Boro, a cracker of a game vs Immingham Town reserves at Lucarly's. Nothing really between the teams last season Boro just edging the 3 meetings between us and to add a bit to it, our Academy team play Immingham 1st team at Lucarly's as well. Sure to be 2 great games at Lucarly's our game kicking off at 2:00pm, free to watch, Bar open, why not come down for a watch, hope to see you there. #OneBoro
