Semi Final defeat
Immingham progress to final to face All Star Panthers
This week we travelled to face Immingham Town res at Lucarly's, yes an away game at home due to Blossom Way been water logged. Boro didn't have a great start to the day with Chris Blake withdrawing from the squad due to a toe injury which he did playing football with his kids.
The game got underway and Immingham took the lead in the 10th minute, a free kick fired straight at keeper Simon Krawczyk
and looked an easy save but the ball dropped out his hands and at the feet of the Immingham forward who was on hand to fire it in. 1-0. in the 14th minute they double there lead, some nice football ended with the ball played to the forward who raced through and got his shot away under pressure from Sam Dean
who semi blocked the shot which wrong footed Simon and creped into the bottom corner. 2-0. Boro did have a couple of chances, the best coming in the 41st minute, Paul Richardson
blasting the ball over the bar from 4 yards out. Half time 2-0.
At half time Simon was replaced in goal by Harrison Tice
and Bill Nicholson
on for Sam Dean
then something the lads have never done before, after manager Rob had had his say the lads went onto the pitch and in a huddle they had words. I don't know what was said but they came out from that huddle a different team.
Captain Brad Elliott perhaps over eager as the half started received a yellow card in the 48th minute the referee pointing out it was his 6th foul in the game. But Boro had the edge and where rewarded with a goal in the 53rd minute. a bit of ping pong in the Immingham box saw the ball fall to Aaron McKenzie
who calmly placed the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out. 2-1. Boro continued to attack and Immingham held firm as the tie got a bit heated and a few tackles started to fly and in the 70th minute an Immingham player was carded for a bad tackle on McKenzie the saw him having to be replaced by Josh Evenden. As the game entered the final stages Boro gambled pushing men forward looking to level the game and in the 87th minute they did, Peter Farrell
's free kick headed in at the back post by Bill Nicholson
but the linesman had raised his flag and after a quick chat with the referee the goal was disallowed. Moments later the game ended and Boro faced the heartbreak of a semi final defeat.
The Lucarly's Man of the Match this week went to Ben Thompson
, a great game at right back who gave the experienced Nimmo nothing during the game.
So now my views of the match. Going to be honest here and I'm sure the player in question will agree with my comments. Simon made a big mistake with the first goal, he did say sorry to the lads at half time ( don't know if the lads heard him or not ). For one of our more experience players to make a mistake like that rocked the team, it raised Immingham and they probably got the second goal quickly because of it. But its learning and this is what the lads have to do. The second half of the game was spoilt by the referee, if he had stamped down on that first bad tackle of the half it would have not led to the injury's to a few players. Even I chatted to Immingham manager Simon half way through the half and he agreed that the ref had lost control. The offside goal no comment I'm still not happy with that decision.
So next up for the Boro an away trip to Tetney Rovers in the Cusworth Cup, 2:00 ko at Tetney playing field. Sure to be a cracking game so why not get down for a watch. #OneBoro
