Cusworth Cup defeat
It's a pink day in honour of Jessica Bryant
This week we made the short journey to face Tetney Rovers in the first round of the Cusworth Cup. Manager Scott faced a few injury problems in the squad with McKenzie out injured and Elliott, Blake, Farrell, Nicholson and Peart all carrying knocks from last weeks game vs Immingham meaning a full Dev A debut for Zak Robinson
. Captain for the day was James Bryant
as the team wore the Pink kit ( thanks to the first team ) in honour of his sister Jessica who sadly passed away last week following her long battle against illness. Many thanks for Tetney in joining us before the game in a minute's applause.
The game got under way in bright sunshine but with a Baltic wind blowing straight down the pitch. Tetney started strong and where unlucky to not take the lead in the 9th minute with a header following a corner hitting the bar. A few minutes later Tetney's no 3 Stanger was carded following a heavy challenge on Bryant who needed lengthy treatment to his knee. Tetney took the lead in the 19th minute, a strange goal really, a free kick from out wide surprised everyone including Harrison Tice
in the Boro goal as instead of crossing, the Tetney player shot and the ball flew into the top corner just out of the outstretched hand of Tice. 1-0. The young Boro team did not rest and straight away where back in the game, Jack Wilson
worked hard down the right wing and feed the ball to Peter Farrell
who in turn found Zak Robinson
who poked the ball into the goal to level the game, 20 mins 1-1. The game settled and neither team had any real chance of note during the rest of the half. Half time 1-1.
The second half got under way and Boro now with the wind at there backs started to play the better of the 2 teams and looked like they where in control until the 78th minute when they conceded soft penalty, the ball been blasted at a player from a short distance and hitting an arm at the players side as he turned his body. Tetney duly converted the kick with a blast high inti the centre of the goal. 2-1. Moment's later another Tetney player was carded for a very late tackle on Harrison Tice
. Boro as hard as they tried could not find a way through Tetney's defence and when they did keeper Ward was on top form and the game ended 2-1 to Tetney.
This weeks Lucarly's Man of the Match went to James Bryant
who had a great game at centre back and it was good to see him playing.
No game next week but on the 10th March a home fixture vs AFC Holton le Clay.
So my view of the game now. A very young team who where unlucky to lose. But more importantly a young team that played today with a mate who they are helping through a tough time. The club moto #OneBoro has never meant more recently than it ever has before. First coach Ellis Salter and now young Jess have been taken from us and its at time's like this our club pulls together to help. Everyone in the team was so happy to see James back playing and for his family to be with us for the game to make it a special day, not just for Jess or for James and his family but for us all and not just our team as over the weekend all teams have done something in there our special way, because we are #OneBoro.
