SUMMARY

Guildford suffered a second successive loss, going down 32 – 16 at Southampton. The game was fought hard by both sides, but Southampton had the edge throughout. Solid defence was on show but bad discipline in both penalties and handling provided the opportunities for tries.

After an even start Southampton took a 12 – 0 lead through Aaron Nelson and winger James Bovett, both converted by George Thropy whose didn't miss a kick all game. Guildford hit back through powerful loose forward James Kirk, but quickly conceeded again as Southampton captian Tom Perrin took an offload to score. 18 – 6 at half time.

Guildford were disappointed with their first half and the best start scoring first in the second period. It was through Fijian winger Filimoni Kuruyawa after a wide pass, conversion missed. This didn't stop Southampton as they immediately switched back on and scored through Kevin Cant's big dummy creating a gap close to the line.

Guildford wouldn't give in and Filimoni Kuruyawa scored a second in the same manner as the first, converted for 24 – 16. That was to be the end of their scoring as Southampton pulled away with their final try proving to be a gamebreaker. Luke Richardson got it after an inside ball from try scorer Kevin Cant. George Thropy added a late penalty after a high tackle to settle the tie at 32 – 16.
