The first season of Play Touch Rugby League at Stoke Park, Guildford proved hugely successful with six teams playing regularly over the last two months.
Following on from last year's Pitch Up and Play, run in conjunction with Surrey Sports Park, the regulars who turned up formed themselves into teams for this season's competition. All the teams came from in and around Guildford area, with little or no experience of either touch or Rugby League.
The first week was a used to break the teams in, bring them up to speed with the rules and get them up to a competent standard to play the following week. ‘’It has been a great first season," said David McMeeken, the RFL's League for All Officer for London & the South East. "All the teams involved have created a fantastic social atmosphere, turning up throughout the wet and muddy months in April and May and at the end of play a large group of them head off down to the pub.’’
"The standard has been amazing, some players who struggled with the pace of the game in the first few weeks are now some of the competition's best players.Three of the six teams have already registered for the second season.’’
The second season kicks off on June 14 Surrey Sports Park, Guildford. Anyone who is interested in entering or would like more information please contact David McMeeken at: david.mcmeeken@rfl.uk.com or 07775022804
