Guilsfield 1 Llanfair Utd 0

Guilsfield went to the top of the league following tonight's home victory versus Llanfair United in the Mid Wales derby. A crowd of 185 witnessed a dogged match with neither keeper unduly tested in the game.
The only goal of the game, in the 25th minute, was a neat finish from Adam Jenkins to score his first goal of the season. He latched onto a loose ball after Chris Cathrall's long throw was flicked on and the striker lashed home from close range.
Guilsfield could have extended the lead just before half time when Peter Rees got on the end of a knock down to fire on target only for Alun Hughes to clear off the line. The final play of the half saw United's Rob Bennett's cross being tipped over the bar by keeper Dave Littleford.
Llanfair came out fired up for the second half and took the game to Guilsfield in the opening 10 minutes. However, Guilsfield then produced two chances within a minute as Adam Jenkins narrowly failed to get on the end of a curling free kick and 60 seconds later his shot was deflected wide. This was the pattern of the second half with all of Guilsfield's shots towards the goal failing to find the target.
Jack Richards could have finished off the game in the last minute after Mark Davies crossed to the far post only to head weakly for keeper Lee Andrew to gather.
All in all, a satisfying win and a clean sheet. The game was never going to be a classic but it was hard fought and, at 1-0, was always a tense match. Llanfair worked their socks off but Guilsfield created the most chances but just didn't have their scoring boots on tonight.
