Guilsfield 2 Gresford Athletic 1

Guilsfield saw off the threat of a very organised Gresford side with a 2-1 home win with a goal in each half from Gareth Jones and Jack Richards. Gresford's goal came with the last kick of the game from sub Rhys Lloyd. The visitors ended the game with 10 men after the dismissal of Graeme Sutcliffe mid-way through the second half.
Guilsfield carried a forward threat throughout the game but without the fluid performance we gave last Saturday. Gareth gave us the lead on 14 minutes after Adam Jenkins' threaded pass through to the on-running midfielder to slot home past Hill-Dunt. Both Adam and Gareth then had two good chances to double the tally but could not find the net. Jenkins was very busy in the first half with his quick feet around the edge of the penalty area.
Gresford gave the home side something to think about before the break as a shot across the face of the goal had to be cleared over the bar by Sean Jones. A minute later another Gresford chance came with a shot crashing down off the underside of the bar but, despite away protestations that the ball had crossed the goal line, the officials did not award an equaliser.
The second half began with Jenkins shooting tamely into the keeper's hands on 50 minutes. James Henderson did not test the keeper with his snap shot on 62 minutes. Sutcliffe was then shown a red card 5 minutes later after tripping up Jenkins on the edge of the box as the striker was about to shoot. The subsequent free kick was crashed into the defensive wall.
On 75 minutes, Guilsfield managed to extend their lead with Jack Richards firing home with his left foot, with his low shot avoiding Hill-Dunt's outstretched arm and nestling in the net. Sub Danny Barton had a shot cleared off the line before leaving the pitch with a leg injury. With all subs used, the game finished with ten men for each team.
Lloyd stepped up with Gresford's goal as he had time and space to run through and finish to reward the away side for their efforts.
