Guilsfield saw off Montgomery in the first round of the Montgomeryshire Cup today. A Phil Turnbull hat-trick and an extra time winner from Mark Davies was enough to get past Monty.
Phil got his first in the 2nd minute after beating the Monty keeper with his header. Tony Meredith equalised in the 9th minute when he beat the offside trap to slot home. Alec Jones gave the home side the lead on 44 minutes but Phil levelled on the stroke of half time. Meredith put the hosts ahead on 53 mins but Phil popped up again to steer home a Mark Davies cross on 72 minutes. Extra time beckoned with the late Summer sunshine making it difficult for both sides. It could have gone either way but Mark Davies volleyed a great shot home with 5 minutes remaining to book a slot into round two.
