Success at Central Park
Denbigh Town 3 Guilsfield 4
A wet and windy Central Park awaited both sides in this tense match. All credit to the Denbigh staff for the excellent pitch surface which stood up to the weather.
Guilsfield began on the front foot with home keeper Vernon making a couple of excellent stops before Denbigh latched onto a defensive error on 15 mins with the wind playing havoc with the ball. Striker Mark Roberts capitalising to fire home the lead after Robbie James had misjudged the flight of the cross. Guilsfield fought back to bring Vernon into action once more. As the half progressed Guilsfield were gaining more and more possession and Vernon had to dive low to save off a Stuart Rogers shot. The pressure was telling and on 38 minutes from a free kick conceded by Town for a foul in a dangerous position, Adam Jenkins sent the free kick into the box which was glanced home by Steve Blenkinsop and Guilsfield were level.
Guilsfield took the lead on 55 mins with Blenkinsop winning possession in the Denbigh half and releasing Jenkins, who was composed enough to draw the keeper and slot home. Guilsfield cemented the lead on 77 mins as Jack Harris smashed home a penalty after Todd had handled in the area. Chris Cathrall weaved into the area on 80 mins and his strike was deflected into the net by Todd to give us a 4-1 lead. All seemed over but two late set pieces on 87 and 90+6 mins gave the scoreline a slightly flattering appearance. Both Denbigh consolations headed home by the towering Tony Davies.
