Happy New Year and Week 11 Summary

Club cricket

On Sunday the 6th of January 2019 the CGL premier league commenced once again with Gunn & Moore Old Edwardians hosting Marks Park Cricket Club.

The visitors won the toss and asked Old Eds to bat first. Not surprising with over 140 millimeters of rain falling in Johannesburg over the week and the expectations of the ball doing a bit.

Marks Park struck early, but that was where their hopes ended. Murray Workman (66) and captain Wesley Landsdale (166*) took the hosts to 145/1.

Wesley stole the show with a batting display of a captain and true pro!

OldEds ended their innings on 278/8.

The Marks Park innings did not start very well. Old Eds and Lions bowler, Sean Jamison ( 1/18 in 7 overs) removing the first wicket in his first over. Then in his first over Ross Van Buuren ( 3/15 in 7 overs) also taking his first scalp.

Marks Park were strangled by fantastic line and length bowling, as Josh Datnow (1/25 in 9.5 overs) and David Sartor (5/34 in 10 overs) bowled out the visitors for 95 in 34 overs.

Old Edwardians have now won 8 from 8 matches, and are currently leading the Premier Division A by 5 points.

This coming weekend they travel to Lenasia, hopefully to continue their run of perfect results.
