Club Cricket

Our Premier XI extended their 50 over cricket to top the table going into the December break.

We took to short drive up to the batsman’s paradise at the Wanderers lower field. After losing the toss Gunn & Moore Old Edwardians were put into bat. A 61 opening partnership between Valli and Workman set the tone before three quick wickets put us back into rebuilding.

Workman put on a solid 85 runs as opener, joined at the crease by Wesley Landsdale who marginally bettered that with 87. This set up the game with us finishing on 270/8, Woolway getting a handy 28 down the order.

Wanderers came into bat and Coetzee and Hendricks making batting look easy got the home side to140 at the halfway stage for no loss. Our boys stepped up the ante after a good talking to at drinks. 4 wickets fell for 33 and we had them on the back foot. Pick of the bowlers was Josh Datnow with 2 for 35 in 10. Old Edwardians winning by 37.

Our Presidents side hosted Pirates on the Allan Lawson Oval.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, we lost two quick wickets on 0 in the opening two overs. Josh Lang returning from a lengthy break came in at three and went about setting the base. We was joined at the crease by Keagan Van Rensberg. The schoolboys went about accumulating runs via rotating the strike and hitting the bad balls to the boundary. Keagan fell two short of his fifty, but a very important 48 non the less.

Conah Macfarlane came to the crease and after the game the captain commented on how awesome it is to have such a wealth of batting talent in the side. Lang and Macfarlane both went on to score magnificent 100’s of 137 and 101* respectively.

Lang, Van Rensberg and Macfarlane have all received Premier call ups this season already it’s just who is going to secure that regular spot is the question being asked. Something reminiscent of the Mackenzie, Dippenaar, Rudolph struggle for the one Protea spot. Hopefully each of ours can go on to replicate the careers of those cricketers.

Gunn & Moore Old Edwardians finishing on 331/5 in the 50 overs.

Chasing such a total is always a tough one especially when you are going up against our Gauteng U19 seamer, Obakeng Maila. His ten overs accounting for the top four Pirates batsmen 10 overs, 1 maiden, 4 wickets for 29 runs. Andile Gladile at the other end did equally as well taking 4/11 in two overs.

Pirates capitulated to 110/10. We collecting a Bonus Point in our 223 run win.
