History - The History of H3

H3 was formed to give rugby playing girls in three local clubs the opportunity to continue to play their chosen game beyond mini-rugby level. Thus in season 2004-5 the foundations of H3 were formed. The Hellingly and Heathfield girls (wearing Hastings colours) played their first competitive match as a team against East Grinstead on a very muddy October day in 2004.Later on in the winter of 2004 the Heathfield girls joined forces with those from Hellingly and Heathfield and after much soul searching for a suitable name H3 was born.

Adopting the Green and Black kit of Heathfield for the remainder of season 2004-5 (very occasionaly the black and gold of Hellingly) the girls played whenever and wherever they could and played in both the Heathfield and Sussex Festivals, which remains to this day a ‘first’ for an all girls team.

From these humble beginnings H3 continued to grow. In season 2005/6 the then U14 team finished top of the London & S.E. League 2. In the following season 2006/7 the team was kitted out for the first time in its now distinctive orange and green kit by sponsors Nuttall and finished the season as runners-up in League 1 and won both the East Grinstead 7’s Festival and the Worthing 10’s Festivals.

The following season 2007/8 began with high expectations and the girls did not disappoint, again finishing runners-up in League 1 and narrowly losing 5-7 to London Irish in a very tense and close fought final at the Worthing 10's festival. For the first time we attempted to start an U12's team the seeds of which despite an encouraging start unfortunately did not flourish.

Season 2008/9 saw us fielding teams in both U15 and U18 age bands with the U15's having an exceptionally good year finishing as runners-up in the Kent/Sussex league and winning the plate final in the RFUW National 7's. In what was a tough transitional year for the U18's they joined forces with South Sussex and but also finished the season on a high the plate final in the National 7's.

Season 2011/2012 has begun as always full of hope not only for success on the field, but that the comraderie and friendships made off the field will continue to go from strength to strength.
