Haddington Rugby Football Club is mourning the passing of Honorary President, Roy Tait. He was 88 and had been ill for some time.

The club learned of the sad news that Roy passed away peacefully early on Saturday morning.

Roy was a great servant of the Club throughout his adult life, in many capacities.

He played through the 1950's and was captain in season 1958-59.

He was President of the Club in seasons 1979-80 and 1980-81.

He served on the Committee for many years, and was perhaps best known by visiting clubs for his running of touch, another job he carried out for many years.

The Club also benefited from significant financial support from Roy, given in a quiet fashion.

All of this great service earned him the rightful reward of Honorary President.

A minute's silence was held in his memory before yesterday's league game vs Livingston, fittingly on the day of the annual "Old Goats" lunch when 20 of his former team mates were there to mark it.

Roy's funeral is at Warriston Crematorium, 2pm Friday 22nd November, thereafter at the Maitlandfield Hotel Haddington from 4pm.
