The Old Goats assembled on Saturday for their second fixture against Old Father Time, following an excellent performance last season.

The 16 squad members had a youthful look since in the absence of some of last season's oldies, the average age was down to a sprightly 80.

This appeared to help as they got off to a great start straight from the kick off, going on the offence demolishing the soup in quick time, before sustained pressure saw off the main course, and some tough tackling knocked back the biscuits and cheese.

The guest Chefs*, Haddington's answer to the two fat ladies, Stewart and Keith tried hard to make small talk but found the oldies more interested in the well-being of their mums.

A team photo saw George Bain reprise his role as Captain of the team in 1956, whilst at least one player Hugo Elder was identified in a picture from 1946.

They then were greatly encouraged when the 1sts left it late but won with a show of some real Haddington spirit.

Clearly pre-season training had gone well since some six hours after kick-off, the last of the summer wine and a few vintage ports were still going strong.

A great team performance, with top marks going to Charlie Naylor and Bill Dudgeon who travelled from York and Glasgow respectively.

Rugby was the winner..

*Stewart and Keith are available for discrete dinner parties………. and will also cook if required.
